Moral Panic

For example, parents want their kids to be innocent, and care about what their children see. This can affect other parents opinion of certain medias. Perceived threats are often based on stereotypes , racism, or sexism.

Who is morally defensive?

Most people who are morally defensive are older/a guardian of a child. They do it to protect themselves and their children from perceived threats.

However, since these threats are often stereotypical, sexist, or racist we believe moral defensiveness is intolerant. for example, LGBTQ+ characters on TV shows, Rap Music, and Violent video games.
