History of Badminton
Badminton has its origins in Ancient Europe and Asia and was first invented in India in a version called "Poona". The British Army learned the game in 1870. Then passed down in Ancient Greece and Egypt called the Battledore and Shuttlecock where two players would hit a feathered shuttlecock back and forth with tiny rackets. Badminton can be played in clubs and outdoors but it is not considered badminton because the shuttle is affected by the wind.
Battledore and shuttlecock
Badminton is a fun sport and a great form of exercise but it requires fast feet, strong technique, and a cunning sense of strategy.
THE BASICS
1. Always hit the center of the shuttle - the rubber rounded center every single time.
2. Hit the shuttle at the top of the racket. - it will benefit the speed and height of the shuttle.
3. Always return to the middle of the court - don't get out of position after you hit a shuttle.
4. Hit the shuttle towards the back line - makes your opponent have to shuffle backwards and hit the shuttle with a considerable amount of strength.
5. Practice your footwork- so you can be ready to return any shot.
HOW TO PLAY
1. stand in the right service court and serve diagonally to the opponent who stands in the opposite right service court.
2. If the shuttle successfully passes the net and lands in the opponent's service court then you score a point.
3. During the serve, the shuttle can not land in the short service line.
4. If the opponent returns the shuttle then you keep playing until the shuttle hits the ground.
5. There are some boundaries in badminton and they are in singles the singles side line and for doubles the doubles side line. If it lands outside of these lines then it is considered out.
Badminton provides many health benefits, both physical and mental.
