The Backpack
In this email sent on Monday May 14 at 2:33 pm, we can see that Dr.Myers told Emily that he would be staying the week at his house with his kids and wife. In the email he spelled his wife's name wrong.
They found Professor Kline's decaying body near the creek, just lying there on its back. The hot local weather during the past week has caused a lot of rotting and a ton of bugs buzzing around the body. There are no visible wounds, probably because of all the maggots and how far gone the body is. They also mentioned some heavy rain on Saturday and a bit of drizzle on Tuesday night, which might have messed with the scene.
Maggots are found in large numbers around Professor Kline's body, both feeding on and migrating around it. The highest concentration of maggots is in the face and neck area. The soil surrounding the body appears undisturbed throughout the decomposition process, but there is evidence of soil splashing on the clothing, which could have occurred during a rainstorm. This suggests that the body has been in its current location since the time of death or shortly thereafter.
The body found on the roadside trail, about 10 miles from the dig site, is swollen, which usually happens when a body starts to break down and gases build up inside, making it puff up.
This reciept was obtained by Emily Wilson at the community college office of Dr. Myers on tuesday may 15. In this receipt we see that Emily stayed at a hotel for 3 nights .
This backpack was found on wednesday may 23 in a dumster at the apartment complex where emely wilson lives.within this backpack there was a rock hammer, keys to a jeep, a bloody man's button down shirt, and what looks like a tent cord covered in blood.
Professor Kline's disappearance transpired on May 14th, wherein Marcy, his assistant, was the last individual to have seen him. The occasion of their last encounter was in conjunction with an archaeological field trip in the vicinity of Jacob's Falls, a circumstance dating back to May 11th.
Subsequently, we encounter the disappearance of Dr. Ralph Myers, further complicating the enigma. His spouse, Janie, initiated the report of his absence, delineating his residency in a Jacob's Falls motel. Pertinently, he had communicated to his research assistant, Emily, his intention to observe a week-long respite with his family.
The terrain of the aforementioned field trip site, proximate to Jacob's Falls, serves as the location of the discovery of Professor Kline's cadaver. Regrettably, the advanced state of decomposition and the inclement weather, characterized by persistent rainfall, have conspired to obliterate potentially critical evidence in the form of footprints and other observable indications.
Notably, the manifestation of maggot activity in proximity to Professor Kline's remains alludes to a prolonged period during which his body was exposed to the elements. Paradoxically, the surrounding earth remained seemingly undisturbed, implying that the decedent had been situated at this locale either at the time of decease or shortly thereafter.
Furthermore, the field site itself bears the imprint of disarray and disarray, revealing damage to equipment, strewn papers, and conspicuously a missing Jeep Cherokee belonging to Dr. Myers, in stark contrast to the unmarred state of Professor Kline's vehicle.
The death of Professor Kline is underscored by suspicious circumstances, albeit hindered by the advanced decomposition. Dr. Myers' concurrent disappearance evokes further disquiet, compelling an examination of potential interconnections between these events. The condition of the field site and the absence of Dr. Myers' Jeep Cherokee lend credence to inquiries surrounding possible foul play. Concurrently, the meteorological conditions, characterized by prolonged rainfall, have cast uncertainty upon the evidentiary landscape.
It also seems that Dr. Myers was the last person to be in contact with professor Kline , his connection to the feild trip raises suspicion. How ever his wife , Jaine has maentioned thst he stays iin a motel in Jacob's Falls during the week, which is quiet distanced from the crime scene. Additonally, theirs an email indicating that he had taken an off to spend time with is family , which can explain his absence. In conclusion this provides us with information of who the final suspect is.
The involvement of Steve Thompson, a local environmentalist, can't be dismissed as he has expressed apprehension regarding the ecological ramifications of the excavation, particularly its purported encroachment upon state property. It's worth noting that Mr. Thompson's whereabouts throughout the past week have not been substantiated by a concrete alibi. Although he is upset about Dr. Myers' excavation work, it's unclear if he has any direct involvement in the disappearance of Professor Kline.
Dr. Myers, being the last person to contact Professor Kline and his connection to the field trip, raises suspicion. However, his wife, Janie, mentioned that he was staying at a motel in Jacob's Falls during the week, which is a significant distance from the crime scene. Additionally, there's an email indicating that he had taken the week off to spend time with his family, which could explain his absence.
