The Ogive Arch was an arch famous in the gothic era that was made up of pointed arcs and intersecting transverse ribs and established the surface of a gothic vault. Below is a video on how they would stand and a visual representation of what they looked like.
The ogive arch demonstrates god's divinity through logic and reasoning by symbolically using the elements of light and mathmatics to show faith and power.
Etymology: Latin word obviata, then transitioned to middle english through middle french and arabic.
These arches were primarily used to support more weight and uphold taller cathedrals. They were able to stand without the use of cement due to mathmatics and physcics that involved thrust. It was created through the instersection of two "S" shaped curves. They are an enhanced version of the roman arch and allowed for a lot more space within a cathedral.
The Ogive arch is connected to philosophy and faith through the use of light and mathemartics. It symbolically uses light to demonstrate the divinity of god and his power due to the amount of light coming in through the pointed windows. Also the incorporation of height has a lot to do with the power of god as well as faith. The taller the arch the closer we are to god and the heavens. As for mathmatics being involved, the number four is considered to be a holy number hence the four evangelists, matthew, mark, luke, and john. The Ogive arch is built upon four sections which symbolize this concept through mathmatics.
