Records have been a mainstay in the music industry, obviously taking many different forms, going from rolls of tin in the late 19th Century, to the mp3 files we have now on our phones. The record is essentially allows for the music to be listened to, without the recording artist being there. The earliest mode of this was the creation of sheet music in the 15th Century, however at the time, it was not considered a record, as you would still need a band to play said music. The world has gone through many phases of records in the record industry such as vinyl, cd’s, and cassette tapes.

The Microphone is a big part of music. Whether it be used to make sound louder for a large audience, or if it be used in recording the next Number 1 hit. Although it seems, a simpler part of the recording and performing process, it is actually quite complicated. Microphones have a membrane inside that vibrates as sound waves (i.e. vocals) hit its surface, and the membrane which is attached to a coil that surrounds a small magnet, would vibrate. As it vibrates it creates an electrical current, which is sent through the wire to an amplifier which makes the sound loud. In recording it is sent to the song making technology, to create a song. This microphone is Dynamic Microphone. Other microphone types include Carbon, Ribbon, Crystal, and Condenser Microphones.

Beats nowadays, vs. in the past, have changed drastically throughout the years, with the meteoric rise in use of beat making software and computers. Beats are often created in 4 and 8 beat patterns. Present day beats often have a bass, melody, harmony, and a ornaments (such as hi-hats, kicks, etc.). Older Day beats, are played together in bands meaning there can be any array of instruments in the beat, as chosen by the musical artist. The beat often makes the song catchy, and is the backbone of the song. There have been many catchy beats, that are easily recognizable, and have contributed to the popularity of the song.
There have been many advances in the technology of beat making, whether it be the world’s first electronic pop song written and produced in 1969. Throughout the years, beats have evolved, and now you can make beats solely on your computer using various software’s such as Dr.Drum beat Making Software, and Dub Turbo Beat Making.
Through the years we have seen many influential beats, such as the beats for A Here Comes the Sun, and Yeah! by Usher
The producer plays maybe the next biggest role in the music making process, after the artist themselves, nowadays. The producer is often the one who creates the beat for the artist in the first place, and is in the studio when it is created, and will help with mixing, and editing for the song as well. The producer often sits outside the booth by the mixing table, where he is able to edit the sound, as the artist sings into the microphone. The role of the producer has evolved very much over time, from being the one to set up the recording for a band, to the one who ultimately creates the theme, and determines whether the song is great or simply just good. There have been many influential producers in our day and age, however a few notable producers are Dr. Dre, Timbaland and Quincy Jones. We will be taking a closer look into Dr.Dre and Quincy Jones.
Rapper-producer Dr. Dre first made it big with hip-hop group N.W.A. in the 1980s. He has also enjoyed success as a solo act and worked with Snoop Dogg, Eminem and 50 Cent. Dr.Dre, has produced some very big songs for artists he has mentored throughout the years with his vast experience in the Music and Rap Game. Songs he produced most notably are: Straight Outta Compton, My Name Is, and The Real Slim Shady
Quincy Jones is best known as a composer and record producer for legendary musicians such as Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson, Celene Dion and Aretha Franklin. Best known for his work with Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones became an integral part of music history, as with his production on Thriller, Michael Jackson's #1 Album, he produced songs such as Beat It, Billie Jean, and Rock with You.
