Although pre-school was a long time ago there are a few things that I remember. In my classroom I remember that it was bright and colorful, filled with fun projects. On the walls of my classroom I remember maps of the world, directions, and different cultural flags. (Ms. Jackie)
Throughout my elementary school education I remember quiet a bit. During these times I learned about people coming over seas into America. I learned more about communities and the people in those communities. I learned more about world geography and our government. I wrote essays and projects throughout elementary school.
A few projects I remember include:
In the fourth grade I remember I took a 4 day trip with Ms. Ryan and our entire class. We went to Frost Valley and learned about the water gap, old traditions, ancient buildings, and more. We went on hikes and learned about the land and animals that were around us.
My highschool experience with social studies was my most memorable. I had the same teacher for 2 years in a row (Mr. Klein). Mr. Klein was passionate about social studies and enjoyed teaching it. One of my favorite classes he taught was learning the laws of the constitution. Mr. Klein taught us about our rights as humans and whats lawful and unlawful. We had multiple debates every week from case studies. We had Mr. Klein as our judge and our class split into two which were the defendents and the plaintiffs. The idea behind this class was the reason to why I became interested in learning about social studies.
My last college social studies class was called Shaping Of the Modern World sophomore year. The background of the class dealt with the expansion and the emergence of the Alantic world to a global society. We learned more about Salvery, trade, colonialism, and so much more. The class was extremely interesting but I believe it was to compact for students to be able to enjoy what was being taught. There wasn't a lot of projects and was somely based on reading the textbook, writing essays, and taking tests. My experiences of social studies hasn't been the best which is why I am looking forward to teaching it to my studies to make it more fun and enjoyable that my teachers all failed to do for me.
