History

History

William Penn, a member of a very wealthy family, was a friend of King Charles II. At age 22, Penn joined a religious group named the Quakers. The Quakers felt that all people, were equal.

The Quakers were one of the most despised religious groups in England. During this time, Quakers were being persecuted for their beliefs and ideas. Since Penn was apart of the Quakers, he wanted to leave England and start a new colony where everybody was equal, and nobody was punished for their ideas.

Penn asked the King for help, so King Charles II made William Penn a proprietor, a person who gets land for an exchange of a yearly payment, in North America.

They named this piece of land Pennsylvania after

Penn.

Native Americans

Native Americans

We respect the Native Americans, and they respect us.

- The reason the Native Americans respect us, is because settlers have to pay for the land that they use.

- There is peace now between us and our neighbors, and will be their for many years.

"I am very sensible of the unkindness and injustice that hath been too much exercised towards you by the people of these parts of the world, who sought themselves, and to make great advantages by you," - William Penn
