when germany attempted to blockade Great Britain, it was a naval operation conducted by the allied powersduring World War 1. it is considerd one of the key elements in the eventual allied victory in the war.

On April 22nd, Germans forces shocked allied sodiers along the westren front by firing more than 150 tons of chlorine gas against two french colonial divions at Ypres, Belgium. This was the first major gas attack by the Germans.
