Example

Claim - Mistakes are the key to discovery

Reason - Mistakes lead to great discoveries for mankind

Elaboration:

Mistakes are key to discovery because they can lead to great discoveries for mankind. Sometimes great ideas that change the world come when you least expect it. The text states, "Percy's accidental discovery of the microwave changed the way people cooked forever" (Source 2). Percy Spencer is just one example of how mistakes can lead to discoveries that change history. This suggests that mistakes are sometimes the thing needed to push mankind forward into the future. Mistakes can be just what a person needs to come up with the next big thing.

So how do I do it?

Purpose: The point of analysis is to explain WHY your piece of evidence is important to your point and claim.

- You need to write HOW your evidence proves your point in the paragraph, and HOW it all connects back to your thesis statement.
