Philosophy

EXED Philosophy:

Experiential education is manner of teaching that informs many methodologies, in which educators purposefully engage with learners in direct experience and focused reflection in order to increase knowledge, develop skills, instill values, and develop people's capacity to contribute to their communities.

Course Registration completed in early March 2018

All students were assigned to a course in April 2018

First course meeting in early May-

launching the new S.E.E curriculum

Once assigned to a course- if a student drops they recieve an F on their transscript

Only Juniors and Seniors may particitpate in a college tour and can only do this once out of their 4 years.

No bonus points were awarded for stay at home courses

Challenges

  • EXED Budget: $30k + $5k donation
  • $36,555 in Ex Ed Scholarships
  • $24,305 FRL
  • All students recieved less than what they asked for in the scholarship.
  • Board had mentioned last year wanting to allocate $ to scholarships. Please do!

Challenges

Teachers who need to pay for pet and/or childcare while on Ex Ed.

Too many local courses- kids want to have experiences outside the valley.

Demands placed on community volunteers- i.e 4+ hour driving test

2 hour driving test/exam for teachers

Federal Government- permitting compliances
