When he returned he was wiser and selfless unlike before. Along with his new look came a new attitude, making him a better king.

The Test for Eternal Life

Unnaptism told gilgamesh that there was another way to achieve imoratlity. He said if he stayed up for six days and seven nights he would be granted imortallity

Plant that Restores Youth/Serpent Stealing Plant

There was a plant that grew underwater and if he took it successfully he would be granted everlasting life so Gilgamesh did this but he set it down to go bathe but there was a serpent deep in the water and it jumped out and grabbed the flower.

Utnapishtim's Flood Story

Encounter with the Lions

Ea came to Utnapishtim in a dream and warned him of a flood, telling him to build a boat. Ea listened and was then granted eternal life.

Gilgamesh woke up and saw lions all around him and he had to get up and fight them. His actions show that he is overcoming his fear, and that he is very courageous.

Mysterious Mountains of Mashu/Man-Scorpions

Journey Across the Ocean with Urshanabi

Man-Scorpions were guarding the mountains, and Gilgamesh told them his story. The Man-Scorpions didn't believe that he could do it but they gave him permission to pass.

Urshanabi takes Gilgamesh to

of the mountain, because he

alone was granted everlasting

life by the gods.

Encounter with Siduri Beside the Sea

Siduri didn't think he could get eternal life either, but he was sent into the woods to find Urshanabi (the ferryman).

Gilgamesh and Enkidu killing the Bull of Heaven.

  • Humbaba is the demon who guards the Cedar Forest. Gilgamesh wants to kill him because he wants to be liked by the people of Uruk.

Once Gilgamesh entered the Garden of the Gods, he spots Shamash. Shamash told him that he would never be able to find immortality.

  • Ishtar sent the Bull of Heaven to destroy the land as punishment. Gilgamesh and Enkidu end up killing the Bull of Heaven.

Enkidu's Dream and Death

  • Enkidu dreams about what the "afterlife" is like and it isn't pleasant. He tells Gilgamesh which makes him scared of dying.
  • Enkidu's death is significant because it hurt Gilgamesh. The gods did this because they were being disrespectful.
