Global Warming

VS Climate Change

Introduction

Introduction

Global warming/climate change is the rapid increase, or decrease, in the average temperature on Earth. This phenomenon affects our Earth dramatically, and can cause a cascade of different issues for the flora and fauna’s survival. Right now, the Earth is heating very slowly. From 1906-2005, the Earth’s average temperature raised from 1.1 to 1.6 C, and it’s predicted to raise even more. Professionals say that each decade, the temperature raises by an average of 0.2 C.

But, what exactly causes these sudden changes in the climate? Some say it is a natural change, that happens every so often when the Earth’s orbit changes, whilst others believe it is impacted by human actions.

Global Warming

Global Warming

There is a substantial portion of scientists that believe human actions affect the planet’s climate, 84% of scientists to be exact. These people have all the right reasons to as well, there is lots of evidence supporting these claims.

Causes

Cause

One of the main affects of global warming, is greenhouse gasses and the burning of fossil fuels. Nitrogen oxides (NOx), are a chemical precursor of Ozone, and are produced when fossil fuels are burned, and are mainly produced by vehicles that run on gas motors, and power plants.

Another effect on the temperature is the Ozone layer. The Ozone layer absorbs solar ultraviolet radiation, which heats the stratosphere. It also absorbs infrared radiation emitted by the Earth’s surface, trapping heat in the troposphere.

In short, burning fossil fuels produces heat-trapping greenhouse gas levels in the Earth’s atmosphere, which increases the average surface temperature on Earth.

These are only a few of the causes, but are the most known and impactful.

Climate Change

The other 16% of scientists believe that the climate differences are a natural cause. Over the 4.5 billion years our planet has existed, the climate has changed many times. Some main affects of these natural changes are; changing configuration of continents and oceans, changes in the sun’s intensity, variations in the Earth’s orbit and volcanic eruptions.

Personally, I believe that the Earth’s heating is caused primarily by human’s, but natural changes could also make an impact.

Ice Age

A huge change in the climate occurred between 2.4-2.1 billion years ago was the ice age. The ice age was caused by a 6 C change, which may not seem like much, but it was enough to cause the Earth’s surface to cool rapidly and create a land of snow and ice.

Conclusion- My Opinion

With all of the proven evidence, I believe that the main cause of global warming is human actions. To sum everything up, global warming is a huge issue that is caused by the irresponsibleness of humans.
