A Serious Problem
Historically, a child with more fat on them meant that the child was healthy and more likely to survive common threats such as disease or lack of nutrition. But today, we hardly think about these kinds of risks anymore. With childhood vaccines, better medical care and access to nutritious food, children are much more likely to survive into adulthood than they were a century ago. But now, because of the prevalence of obesity, children are at risk again.
Recent Health Report Stirs Up the Town
Last week, the Town Council had approved two new fast food restaurants to be built in Metabolic Magic. But after a health report that found 50% of children and 75% of adults in Metabolic Magic were overweight or obese, Mayor Johnson put the project on hold.

Superintendent of Schools, Augustus T. Franklin announced today that due to budget cuts, the Metabolic Magic School District will no longer offer PE classes in the upcoming year.
This news comes on the heels of a troubling health report. “ I cannot say I was surprised by the health report,” says Amelia Bennett. “During my 25 years as the PE teacher at Metabolic Magic School, I have seen the number of physical education classes go from one hour each day to just 45 minutes a week, and now they have cut the classes all together!
