Lots of steps to cross on the road to med school
A lot of these things I looked at as a threat, which made it debilitating to complete
Once viewed as a challenge, I looked at it like a step in the right direction, rather than an obstacle
Positive Self Talk
You can do it.
You're doing the best you can.
Keep pushing through.
Stop Catastrophizing
Fixed Mindset: I can't go to med school, it's too hard, I'm not cut out for it
Growth Mindset: I realize it is a diffcult process, and I am ready to handle the workload that will come my way
Shifting from a fixed to growth mindset has helped me continue on this path
I enjoy the classes that I'm taking, and feel good about myself and my future when I succeed (get good grades in those classes)-serves as a reminder that I am capable. This serves as motivation that I then apply to med school preparation
Sometimes I can get so hyperfocused on certain things
When I pull myself out and look at it from an overall persepctive, I'm reminded why I want to become a doctor and am motivated to continue working hard.
It was easy to forget that I wasn't alone
Hard to not feel guilty about taking breaks
FRIENDS ARE IMPORTANT
Talking with other pre-med students, hearing their stressors made me feel validated in my own
Random convos or venting to friends just made me feel relieved and carefree
Worked in study breaks and time for myself
Made me feel better and when returned to my laptop, felt more motivated, not as overwhelmed
It won't get any easier (realistic statement)
Continue to apply everything I've learned, use in everyday life so it becomes second-nature
Next steps include actually applying, hopefully interviews and then *fingers crossed* acceptance into a medical school
Can't let stress consume me; learn to embrace it and be excited about opportunities, not scared
