I will be asking my family members to rank certain korean foods. (My entire family is Chinese)

Gyeongdan

#1

  • A Korean rice ball cake made of glutinous rice flour
  • Served as a dessert
  • Comes in a variety of fillings and coatings

Coming in first place with 21 points is gyeondan because it is simple and they like the wide variety of fillings and coatings.

Reason

Bingsu

  • A popular Korean dessert
  • Bingsu is a mountain of shaved ice with a creamy base.
  • Toppings include fruity syrups, fruits, red bean pastes, candies and chocolates
  • Easy to make at home; Need a blender, bowl and spoon

Reason

Bingsu comes in second place with 19 points because its a sweet and delicious dessert but for some it can be a bit too sweet

Bibimbap

  • Bibimbap a rice bowl that has vegetables, marinated beef, fried egg and gochujang which is a korean chilli paste
  • A good and popular Korean main course dish

Reason

Bibimbap comes close in third place with 18 points and its third because it is filling and a good main course meal

Bungeo-ppang

  • Street food
  • Golden brown waffle coating and a warm / sweet filling.
  • Fillings include custard, red bean paste, chocolate

Coming in fourth place with 17 points is Bungeo-ppang because it is a popular street food you can find in the city and its a good sweet snack.

  • a fermented vegetable dish
  • Sweet and spicy
  • Made out of cabbage, raddish, green onions and cucumbers but mainly cabbage and radish
  • Over 180 types of kimchi

Coming in 5th place with 15 points is Kimchi. Kimchi is in 5th because it is in most korean dishes but it can be a bit sour because it is a fermented dish.

Bulgogi

  • A marinated beef dish cooked over a grill
  • Sweet and savoury
  • The marinate is made out of garlic, ginger, sesame oil, soy sauce and sugar.
  • Served as a main course meal.

Reason

Coming in 6th place is bulgolgi with 13 points. It is placed very low because it is a dish that is on the sweeter side. The marinate is also quite sweet.

Japchae

  • A stir fry made out of vegetables, noodles and meat (Optional)
  • Vegetables could include spinach, carrots, bean sprouts, mushrooms like enoki and onions
  • A main course dish.

Reason

Coming in 7th place with 12.5 points is Japchae. Japchae is placed at a low place because most types of japchaes do not have enough beef / meat

Songpyeon

  • Moon shaped rice cakes
  • Made by steaming
  • Rice cake dough coat
  • Filled with sweet fillings like red bean and honey

Reason

Songpyeon is placed in 8th place with 11 points because the majority of my family do not like sweet things.

Kimbap

  • Made out of rice, vegetables ( spinach, pickled radish, carrots) egg and seaweed.

Kimbap is placed in 9th with 11 points because my family does not really like rice rolls that mainly consists of vegetables.

Tteok-bokki

  • Is a stir fried rice cake dish
  • Can be a main course meal / snack
  • A well know korean street food
  • Cook and served in a spicy soup.

In last place it is tteobokki with 9 points. It is placed last because there is too much sauce and they do not like the spicy soup / broth.
