"The Sun" is a British tabloid daily newspaper. It's the biggest newspaper in the UK. The second place is the other version named "The Sun on Sunday".

first copy

The Sun first copy was published as a broadsheet on 15 September 1964

It was published to replace falling "Daily Herald".

circulation

The Sun had the largest circulation of any daily newspaper in the United Kingdom but it was overtaken by rival "Metro" in March 2018. In February 2020, it had an average daily circulation of 1.2 million.

The Scottish Sun launched in 1987. In 1992 it declared support for Scottish independence. In 2021 Scottish Parliament election it opted for SNP- Scottish National Party, which won this elections. Theirs leader Nicola Sturgeon became a First Minister of Scotland.

In 2016 The Sun urged it's readers to vote for United Kingdom to leave the European Union. The "BeLeave in Britain" front-page headline was only present on copies distributed in England and Wales; editions for Scotland, Northern Ireland (and the Republic of Ireland) led on other topics.

Welsh rugby player Gareth Thomas told BBC Radio 5 Live that an unnamed journalist had revealed his HIV status to his parents before he could do it himself. While Thomas didn't say the name of newspaper involved, he did say "everybody will know, especially of late", leading the Press Gazette to suggest that it could be The Sun, on the basis of the Stokes coverage.
