The clear and evident archetypes portrayed in the animation, "Shrek" reveals writer William Steig's entertaining purpose to illustrate that even the most most unlikely characters can become heroes.
Brief Summary of Shrek
Once upon a time, there was a swamp and an ogre named Shrek who called it home. One day, a swarm of fairy tale creatures wanted to seek refuge in Shrek's swamp. Shrek makes a deal with Lord Farquaad to save the Princess Fiona to kick the creatures out of his swamp. When Shrek gets to the tower where the Princess resided in, he saw that it was guarded by a dragon. Shrek enlisted his friend, Donkey, to help distract the dragon for him while he saved the princess. On his way back to Lord Farquaad's kingdom, Shrek falls in love with Fiona. Lord Farquaad then takes Fiona for himself so that he could become King Farquaad. Shrek rescues Fiona, kills Lord Farquaad, gets married to Princess Fiona, and live together happily ever after.
