Types Of Communities

What is a community?

  • A community is a group of people living in an area.

  • There are 3 main types of comminities in which people live.

1.) Rural

2.) Urban

3.) Suburban

Urban Community

also known as the "city"

lots of people living close together

not a lot of open grassy areas

Transportation

Urban Communities

--modes of transportation include, bikes, taxi cabs, uber, lyft, the subway, city buses, biking, walking, etc.

--activities include shopping, museums, galleries, walking and audio tours, festivals/events, parks, sporting events, concerts, beach, etc.

Rural Communities

  • also known as "the country"
  • less people
  • farmland
  • gravel/dirt roads are common
  • has fewer buildings

  • Activities include hunting, fishing, hiking, swimming, etc.

Suburban Communitites

Suburban Communities

--a suburban community is a community that is right outside of a city, but not in the city

--fewer people than in a city

--modes of transportation are mostly a personal car

(train/bus systems are sometimes too far of a walk, but taking a train into the city is a possibility depending on where you live

Activities include, shopping, barbeques, swimming, riding bikes, walking, going to the park, visiting neighbors/family, etc

Community Helpers

Community Helpers

--Community helpers are people in a community that help improve the community that they live in

--does not necessarily have to have a job title such as in the photo to the left

--volunteers including children can be community helpers
