- Some friends used their power to sell government job
- Teapot Dome Scandal: Albert B. Falls secretly allowed private interest to lease land with Navy Oil Reserves
- Attorney General Harry Daughtery was under investigation for a German/American company bribing American politicians. Daughtery would not testify under oath claiming immunity.
- Immunity: Freedom of prosecution
- 1923 Pres. Harding passes
- Calvin Coolidge becomes pres.

- Coolidge quickly distanced himself from the Harding administration
- Coolidge believed prosperity rested on business leadership
- Coolidge wins reelection despite recent party scandals
