Event analysis

  • Event analysis is the most frequently used method of empirical analysis of political events, which was developed at the turn of the 1960s and 1970s.
  • It relies on tracking the dynamics of political processes and their intensity to determine the main trends in the development of events.
  • In recent years, event analysis has been used to assess the intensity of TNC influence on the domestic policy of the host countries of these corporations, media activity in reflecting political events, and so on.

Problem Statement

Objects of Event Analysis

  • Negotiations at the state level;
  • Development of the protest movement;
  • Nationalist speeches;
  • Military conflicts, etc.

Objects

There are two ways to perform event analysis.

1

The first option is to conduct a non-directional analysis of events, when the researcher, based on empirical data, comes up with abstract theoretical models for explaining events and calculates how real events "fit" into the created concept.

Interviews

2

The second option is a targeted event analysis (the "top-down" approach), which is a given normative model put forward by the researcher and then "filled in" with factual data.

The material collected on the basis of a structured approach to information collection is analyzed.
