Advocated the use of armed insurrection to overthrow the institution of slavery in the United States.

The Ku Klux Klan commonly called the KKK or the Klan, is an American white supremacist hate group, whose primary target are African Americans.

Klan's primary target, it also has attacked Jews, immigrants, gays and lesbians and, until recently, Catholics.

A belief where American settlers was to expand and move across the continent to spread their traditions and their institutions, while at the same time enlightening more primitive nations.

This was an expansion of U.S. territory as colonies rather than states and was another demonstration of growing U.S. imperialism

Promoting the interests of a section or region (such as the North or the South) instead of the entire country.

A zouave regiment was characterized by its soldiers' bright, colorful uniforms which usually included baggy trousers

diplomatic incident that occurred between the United States and France in 1797
