what's body blocks

  • small activities that will help improve mental and physical health
  • focused heavily on young adults 15-18 years of age
  • create a relaxing and fun envrionment

Goals

The goals of body blocks are to...

  • reduce stress
  • boost self esteem
  • create a fun and inviting environment for the kids
  • show kids healthy habits
  • give them knowledge to have a healthier lifestyle as an adult
  • improve mental health

where is the funding?

Funding?

  • Body Blocks is going to be a non profit "organization"
  • very little supplies will be needed
  • everything the kids will need can be brought from home
  • the intention is for a stress free environment that the kids dont need to spend money on

location?

Friendship Park

  • big park that has a lot of free space
  • driveable distance makes it easier for kids to show up
  • public area and easy to get to
  • outside for fresh air and a bit of sunlight for that vitamin D

  • stretching
  • meditation
  • "journaling"
  • goal setting
  • all within an hour

Schedule

Under an Hour

  • only on the weekends
  • meet time 9:30 am
  • talk/catchup 9:30-9:40
  • start streching 9:40-9:50
  • Meditation 9:50-10
  • "Journal" 10-10:05
  • talk and share journal entires 10:05-10:15
  • goal setting and closing thoughts 10:15-10:25

High school kids

WHO?

  • freshmen through seniors ages 15-18 yrs old
  • early enough age to start building healthy habits
  • old enough to start to grasp why the skills can be important

why chosen activites?

Purposose

  • meditation imporves concentration reduces stress, reduces negative emotions (Meditation, 2020)
  • stretching: increases blood flow to muscles, increase range of motion, increase flexibility, good for stress releif (Lindberg, 2018)
  • journaling keeps memory sharp, boost immune system, strengthens emotional funciton (Bailey, 2018)

  • i want the kids to learn to be happy with themselves
  • to feel like nothing can tear them down
  • feel like nothing can stop them
