Canadian Healthcare

Canada's Healthcare System

Canadian healthcare is publicly funded and available to all canadian citizens. While accessible to all, about two thirds of canadians also have private health insurance to cover things like dental, vision, and other things not covered by their insurance. Covered services vary between provinces but they must cover medically necessary physicians, diagnostic testing, and hospital visits. These services are 100% covered and do not cost the patient anything. Public healthcare covers specialized areas of care within the hospital (such as mental health) but most do not cover specialized outpatient care or home care (Allin & Rudoler, 2016).
