Digestion is important for breaking down food into nutrients, which the body uses for energy, growth and makes cells Food and drink must be changed into smaller molecules of nutrients before the blood absorbs them and carries them to cells throughout the body.

your mouth grinds the food up then it goes threw the esophagus then goes to your stomach the acid breaks it down until it is turned in to molecules like proteins that are made out of carbohydrates vitamins and fats then goes into the blood. The liver, kidneys, and the entire digestive system, work to separate the good parts from the bad.

when you eat something your body acid breaks it down it turns in to nutrients witch powers your body that's why we eat breakfast to give us energy until we eat lunch.
