10 FACTS ABOUT SOLAR WINDS
Solar wind is a plasma-like emission of protons, electrons and other particles emanating from the Sun
These occur because the Sun's extreme heat, heats up the electrons, protons and nuclei to extreme temperatures, which excites them and they gain enough energy to overcome the Sun's gravitational pull
It travels in all directions, impacting many planets within the solar system
The average speed of solar wind as it is radiated from the Sun is 400 km/s
They get radiated faster from cooler parts than hotter parts of the Sun because the strength of Sun's magnetic field is lower than the magnetic fields over hotter areas
The pressure created by them creates a shield or bubble which is called the heliosphere
This heliosphere extends past Pluto and into the Kuiper belt
This solar wind cannot affect life on Earth, since it is guarded by the Earth's atmosphere
Nevertheless certain particles in the solar wind are diverted to Earth's polar regions, and cause they auroras in the Earth's atmosphere
Certain moons that have atmospheres and active magnetic fields, such as Triton of Neptune, also experience these auroras due to solar winds
