In art education, teachers can play an important role in the motivation to balance the mental and cognitive of the children. Behaviorism, also known as behavioral psychology, is a theory of learning based upon the idea that all behaviors are acquired through conditioning.
1. Use attractive learning aids.
2. Decorate the classroom with beautiful visuals.
3. Greet the students and smile at them when he comes to the classroom
1. Inform the students clearly and specifically the format of assignments, artist statements, and quizzes.
2. Clarify the rules of the art classroom.
3. Encourage students to work in small groups for help with art techniques and creative ideas.
4. Communicate behavior and punish bad ones consistently.
1. Use positive verbal reinforcement to manage transitions. Most students want to do good, so this is sometimes as simple as: "Thank you for your attention." other times I could reward a whole table group for their good behavior by everyone stopping work and listening to directions. “Way to go red table, you transitioned from painting to instruction quickly and quietly”
2. Reinforce behavior by a reward. Use concrete reinforcement like Ram Stickers to one student in class who listens, respectful to others, and cleans up while helping others to clean. Ram Stickers are a positive reinforcement strategy implemented at my school.
1. Point out what they are doing right. Responding to student success rather than failures. Art classrooms for middle schoolers can be a scary place for students who feel they are not talented artistically. For example, rather than pointing out what students are doing wrong in an art assignment, I point out what they are doing right.
2. Increase learning and decrease playing around by evaluating performance. Use lesson plans to build daily exit tickets tracking performance, giving weekly participation grades to encourage students to do their best work in the classroom everyday.
