Figures of speech
i.e - Latin "id est" = “that is.” It is used to introduce a rephrasing or elaboration on something that has already been stated.
e.g - Latin "exempli gratia," meaning “for example.”
A metaphor is a figure of speech that is used to make a comparison between two things that are not related at all.
For example: "Cash is king." "Laughter is the best medicine."
Similes and metaphors are often confused with one another. The main difference between a simile and metaphor is that a simile uses the words "like" or "as" to draw a comparison and a metaphor simply states the comparison without using "like" or "as".
A simile is a figure of speech that compares two different things by using "like" or "as".
For example: "Strong as an ox". "Run like the wind."
