The Nez Perce lived in teepees during hunting, and in longhouses when they settled.The Nez Perce live , in the North West region of america, in Idaho.the Nez perce were a hunter-gatherer tribe, but did have homes to return to from hunting.The permanent place of settlement was in central Idaho,now a reservation. It was the End of the Nez Perce war, and the surrendering of cheif joseph that caused this.
Jewelry was made of elks teeth,bone,and porcupine quils.Beads were introduced by the European traders. Clothing was most often made from animal skins,and hides.Trees would be used as the framework for houses.A very important ritual would be the Winter Spirit Dance,Which is where girls and boys who have found their weyekin (Nez Perce word for spiritual being) go up the mountain,and then back down to partake in the dance,which is supposed to give you good health, or skill in the future.
A special tradition in the Nez Perce tribe would be the cutting off of ones umbilical chord,in which its turned into a puoch,and put on the babies cradle. The Nez Perce are known for their appaloosa horses.
Winter homes were circular wooden structures covered with cedar bark, mats, sage, grasses, and dirt. The roof was flat or like a cone. Mats covered all the floors. In the summer, people built temporary brush lean-tos.
The Umatilla Territory was located along the lower Umatilla river and Columbia river west of the mouth of the Walla Walla river.
Umatillas moved along side the food supply.Fish,like Salmon,and Trout, was the staple, It was broiled, baked, boiled, or dried, smoked, and stored. Animal Food included elk, deer, moose, mountain sheep, rabbits, and small game. Hunters went to the Plains to hunt buffalo. Some meat was "jerked" for winter. Deer were shot and killed, as were other game, with a bow, or with a spear. Some animals were hunted with the use of decoys.The Umatilla had permanent settlements along rivers.Rivers are a great source of fresh food,water,and transportation.
The Umatilla took advantage of roots, nuts, berries, mushrooms, medicine, food,fiber plants Salmon, Huckleberries, dried berries, roots, onions, herbs, spices, meat and fish would be dried and cached for food. a ritual known as sweat lodging,is where you go to pray and renew oneself.Bison hunting is a very important custom to the Umatilla tribe. the Umatilla people were well known for their horseback riding skills.

Sanpoils lived near the Columbia and the Sanpoil Rivers. The Sanpoils where hunter gatherers. They lived in the north part of the Plateau Rregion. and they had a permanent village. They setteled next to a river because they could get water. They would use all materails they could get, they would use the hides for the homes, and clothing, they would use the bones as tools. There religon was based on gardien spirits and Singing and sacrificing were also a big part.
The shuswap tribe made selter with mats and tree bark. The Shuswap people where a peremint setelment they setttled in and near their aboriginal territory in the Fraser and North and South Thompson River valleys, British Columbia. They ate fish, roots, and barries they also grew crops. The peolpe would pray and worship spirts.
