Signal Verbs

Use Signal Verbs That Fit The Action

  • Try to avoid bland formulas such as "She says" or "they believe"
  • Those formulas fail to reflect what has been said

  • Verbs For making claim: argue, claim, insist
  • Verbs for expressing agreement: agree, verify, support
  • Verbs for questioning or disagreeing: complain, deny, refute
  • Verbs for making recommendations: plead, recommend, urge
