This environmental portrait shows my friend Maika working at a Market specifically at this time in the deli/ food and drinks preparing area. Some props that show that she is in a deli/ food and drink preparing area are the coffee machines (which in the picture she is cleaning and preparing for the next day), and in the background is a black chalk board stating the menu for sandwiches etc. In addition, Maika is also wearing an apron.
The second environmental portrait shows my friend Kaylee moving hay bales. She works at a few different barns with cows and horses, but as well, keeping the maintenance. A few of the props include the large stack of hay bales, the equipment in the background on the left, and her outfit which includes jeans and a plaid shirt. This is a typical attire for her when working at her barns.
In the third environmental portrait shows people who are learning to dive as well as the instructor (with the yellow goggles). The man lying down is helping with the learners get set up for their dive by inspecting their equipment. The props, such as the man helping with the equipment, and the ocean, give the ability for you to tell what the instructor and man's jobs are. Something I thought that was interesting about this photo is the contrasting of textures between the rock steps and the texture of the ocean.
This photo would be something a photojournalist would take a photo because of the story behind it.
On June 27th, Kevin Hagen's body was returned, and a homecoming motor procession was held in Victoria BC. He was killed in a helicopter crash in the Mediterranean Sea off of Greece. Kevin was born in Nanaimo, but spent time in Victoria, Ladysmith and Quadra Island. The photo I took is of a Government plane taking off that was one of three planes that had traveled to Victoria with Kevin's body.
A sweet pea flower.
The process of making gnocchi.
Fresh made gnocchi ready to be cooked with my Mom's hands in the background rolling out the next batch
This is a special beach near my house. It is always very nice to take pictures at and has great, popping colors during the summer and fall
My friend Grace and I decided to do a simple photo shoot in her backyard. I specifically chose the shirt for her as it matches her eyes.
I realized there was interesting lighting so I took up the opportunity to take pictures of these flowers. I quite like how they turned out as it is something that I haven't seen or tried before.
This is once again at my friend Kaylee's barn where she takes care of 4 cows. One thing I like about the picture is how the inside of the barn is illuminated while the outside nature is still visible.
This photo was taken in Sidney BC on a summer night. Something that stands out for me is the seagull flying by.
I was on a hike when I took this photo. I enjoy how the water is in motion and how the plant is a vibrant green. The texture of the moss comparing to the smooth, flat rocks is interesting.
This is another photo of Maika taken at the market she works at. It is taken while she is putting food in the cold room for storage.
This is one of my favorite photos that I have taken yet. I particularly like how it is in black and white and the dark background. It focuses just on the cow which I think is important.
For this photo, I really like how vibrant the colors are and how every single blade of grass is visible. Of course, the contrast of the coloring between the grass and the ladybug is interesting as well.
Taken at my friend Kaylee's barn, I captured this photo just as we were about to leave. She was sitting in a lawn chair just outside the barn when I got the idea. I enjoy the simplicity of this photo.
