Grey Owl was one of Canada's first conservationists. Many believe he saved the beaver species from extinction. Before he started protecting species he was a hunter. Eventually he began his writing and conservation work on logging and the fur industries. Grey Owl wrote and published his first book in 1931 and attracted crazy reviews which started his fame. He wrote many books on environmental issues which affected how many people treated the outdoors. His ideas are still relevant to this day as we try to counter global warming and reduce the damage on our planet.
Invented by John T. Thompson in 1914, this weapon was an important asset in WWI and WWII (millions were made). The sub machine gun (S.M.G) is a magazine fed automatic carbine design. This weapon dominated in the world wars because of its rapid fire rate. Many of the 16 million deaths in WWI were because of this dangerous weapon. This weapon was later replaced by a newer military weapons.
Prohibition was an attempt to block the sale and use of intoxicating alcohol. For multiple reasons prohibition was a failure. People still used alcohol but they used it illegally. This law increased the crime rate in the country. This was historically significant because it shows that government ideas don't always work well. This did not last long because the ban was lifted in 1920, only 2 years later.
The Treaty of Versailles was a peace treaty that concluded WWI between France, England, and Germany. The Treaty of Versailles was significant because it was one of the important factors of bringing WWI to an end. Although it was also a major agitator towards Germany which helped start WWII. The Treaty of Versailles also declared that Germany payed a sum of money. This damaged the German economy making the great depression even harder. By 1989 Germany's economy recovered and was the third largest economy on the planet. Germany lost a large amount of resources including: 100,000 military troops and 6 battle ships.

The Chinese Exclusion act also named the Chinese Immigration Act in 1923 was an effective way to block Chinese from immigrating to Canada. Over the period of this act only 50 Chinese were allowed into Canada. This was significant because this does not follow human rights and they had no reason to block them from entering. All the Chinese blocked from Canada were effected because they were immigrating for a better lie and they were rejected.
The Balfour report was the declaration that Britain and it's dominions were all equal. This was a large landmark for Canada because it confirmed Canada to be an independent country. This event effected Canadians in a large way because they now had independent laws and they had pride for their country. This report was significant because Canada now has independent ideas and actions, they also received national identity. This has continued to the present day.
Antibiotics (Penicillin) is a medication invented in 1928 by Alexander Fleming. Penicillin is an antibiotic that treats many types of infections caused by bacteria. This antibiotic played a massive role in WWII, saving many lives. Over the many years penicillin has saved at least 200 millions individuals and lives are still being saved today.
The Persons Case was a Canadian constitutional casein 1929 that decided that women were allowed to join the senate in Canada. This was significant because it effected women all around Canada and were seen as equal and were named "persons". All of the women in Canada were effected by this case which was approximately 48.5% of the Canadian population in 1929. These changes have lasted until the present day and has helped women have more confidence and identity.
The Great Depression started back in 1929 on Black Tuesday and ended during 1939. There were many causes for the Great Depression but a major factor was the stock market crash. Millions of dollars were lost during the crash which led to the loss of jobs. Both women and men were out of jobs and could not support their families. This was very significant because the The great depression effected almost everyone economically in Canada during the 10 year period. Although the poor were hit the hardest.
Canada declared war on Germany back in 1939. Although Canada did not declare war for no reason. Canada was backing up Britain and France. WWII affected many lives because first of all it's a war! Secondly many families had loved ones leave with an uncertain return. Approximately 70-80 million people died in WWII and many more were injured severely. World War II ended in 1945 but the memories of war still continued to haunt. These historical events are also very important so were don't repeat our mistakes in the past.
