Observation: Blumfield Elementary

* ESL teacher at Blumfield Elementary

* Usually has Kindergarten, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grades

* Pull out ESL teacher

Group 1: 5 students; 2 females, 3 males; Kindergarten reading intervention

Group 2: 3 students; 1 female, 2 males; 3rd grade reading intervention

Group 3: 10 students; 5 females, 5 males; 3rd grade REACH program

All of the ELs spoke Spanish

Classroom

Enviornment

* Open Concept

* Three teachers, one para

* Classroom is tucked into a back area of the school

* Students sat in desks and at a table depending on the amount of students

Lessons

Group 2: Mrs. Phipps had the students read aloud, then asked comprehension questions about the book "Fabulous Frogs"

Group 3: The REACH program, on the day I visited Blumfield the students were working on grammar. The students were fixing sentences that were written on the board.

Objectives

* Students work on reading intervention

* Comprehension

* Decoding

* Students work on grammar during REACH

* In the program, the students read on the first day

* Then work on grammar

* Students then do a project or game, Mrs. Phipps said the students would be using iPads and the Seesaw app the next day

Assessment

* Students write everyday

* Students have to answer a question to leave the classroom everyday

* Students have to use proper editing marks and sentence structure

* How to adapt to changes in the classroom

* Always use visuals

* Know your content and how to answer questions

* Know how to answer questions and how to answer them in multiple ways

* Students may be shy and not be comfortable in the classroom

*Make sure all students feel safe and comfortable

* Students may not be motivated

* Find fun, exciting activities to motivate students
