17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat;

Gen 2:16-17

Hello CCH Family / Welcome Heart/Home

I want to pose a ?/all too familiar verses

I've read/heard these verses several times

Never thought about these questions

Have you ever thought about WHY it was

bad thing for Adam/Eve to eat from the tree?

Afterall isn't that something God wants us...

The problem isn't knowing the difference

as God clearly wanted them and us to know

The ? is from what source will you attain it?

Will you trust God to be the source?

Or will you trust a source independ. of God?

What do I mean by this?

In the garden, and this still holds true today

God wanted to be the one to teach Adam/Eve

Adam and Eve's test was to see if they would

(1)trust an omniscient God to teach them

as He saw fit, in His timing...

OR

(2)Would they choose another source?

Would they trust God's desire to provide

everything they needed OR would they

believe God was holding out on them?

Would they trust God's wisdom to define +/-?

Or would they succumb to the desire of

taking this wisdom against His prohibition?

Well we know the outcome and at times

we lament on how bad they blew it and

we would have made a different choice

Why didn't they just listen to God?!

But we have to be very careful not to think

we are above that poor choice they made

Let's dive in a little further

Gen 3:6

Did you catch it?

Eve defined what was GOOD / her own eyes

This is not to pile on Eve/notice Adam / there

God had defined that tree as bad as far as it

being a source of knowledge for them

Adam/Eve failed to trust Him/redefined

They chose the snake/they chose death

6 So when the woman saw that the tree was GOOD for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.

Surely we are more sophisticated then

those primitive people

We put a man on the moon/don't sweep

Unfortun. we aren't so sophisticated afterall

From the garden to this day, humanity

has chosen to define good and bad

on our own terms.

The years/calendar changed /not actions

Whenever man defines/Indep God/suffer

We dont have to search too long 4 examples

bombarded with them in our society everyday

It's worth repeating...

Whenever man defines good and bad in their own own eyes/indep God / suffer

King Solomon is described in 1 Kings 4:30 as

Let's refresh memory as to how he got there

God basically backed up the Brinks truck

Whatever you ask, you got it

30 Thus Solomon’s wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the men of the East and all the wisdom of Egypt.

He could've asked for anything

Genuine desire to govern God's people effec

1 Kings 3:9

This sounds like someone very familiar w/

Eden narrative

Solomon wanted the same thing Adam/Eve

The MAJOR difference is He trusted God

to be the source of that knowledge

The ONLY source of this kind of knowledge

9 Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?”

My church family from the babe in Christ

to the seasoned saint please don't think

your immune from worldy influence that will

form your definitions of good and bad.

If your face isn't burried in this book you

are leaving yourself wide open.

Satan will not tug on your shirt and say...

The snake was more cunning than any beast

of the field

He doesn't need a fruit tree

He has access to the Internet / social media

TV, highly influential people in our world, and of course that guy you work with that watched a documentary on the discovery channel once

Not to besmirch anyone shown, but make no mistake, they have influence (subtle or not)

You may be solid on the major/faced everyday

Be on guard

2 But his delight is in the word of the Lord, And in His word he meditates day and night.

If our definitions do not line up with His

we are wrong it's that simple (Repent)

And we have a gazillion examples of what

happens if we don't.

Or simply turn on evening news c 4 yourself but I don't recommend that

Instead be that person described in Psalm 1

Blessed is the man Who walks

not in the counsel of the ungodly,

Nor stands in the path of sinners,

Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;

I encourage/read further/discover promise God gives for those described in those 2 verses

But I have a feeling/seasoned saints/tucked

Before I go / steal an idea / Robert / Blessings

The wonderful Gage will leave a link

Lead singer will ask 12 ?'s / Only one answer

Add a 13th / After 12 ?'s /

Who else/remotely qualified/source wisdom?

Thank you / See you down the road
