Human Evolution and

Culture

Human evolution

- Process by which apelike ancestors have evolved into the species of Homosapiens.

- Homosapiens behavioral and physical traits evolved from these apelike ancestors over 6 million years.

- Engulfs development of human morphology, culture, and technology.

- A multidisciplinary of physical anthropology, archeology, genetics and molecular biology

What is Culture

Culture

- Customs

- Ideas

- Knowledge

- Objects

- Values

- Behaviors

- Learning

- Interaction

There is, however, a biological attribute to culture as well, which has actually been shaped through evolution.

How the two differ

Differences

- It is interesting to see how mindsets, technology, awareness, and socializing affects evolution

- Human cultural traits, behaviors, ideas, and technologies can be learned from other individuals

- These can exhibit complex patterns of transmission and evolution

- For years researchers have developed theoretical models, both verbal and mathematical, to study these patterns.

- This has allowed scientists to gain a greater understanding of human interaction and how our mindsets could lead to the future of human evolution.

Interesting facts

Impacts

Cultural impacts on evolution

- Culture impacts the behavior of human beings which is then transmitted to their off springs or people they interact with.

- How different cultures deal with medical, traditional, and partnership marriages.

- This can therefore impact genetics, medical care, and different elements used in different tradition.

- An example of each can be:

1) Genetics - the genes of one parent combined with the genes of another.

2) Medical care - In India and Bangladesh people often use a wide variety of natural medication, e.g Ayurvedic.

3) Tradition- In India most people don't eat beef because it is against our religion. Whereas in the US a lot of people eat beef.

Conclusion

- "These cognitive adaptations give rise to a robust second system of inheritance (cultural evolution) that operates by different transmission rules than genetic inheritance, and can thus produce a phenomena that is not observed in other less cultural species."

- Therefore you see a clash in the way human evolution goes hand in hand with cultural changes.
