Rice was brought to the Philippines during an Indo-Malaysia, Chinese, and Vietnamese wave of migration.

2nd Century AD

  • The Chinese were the first to trade with the Philippines.

  • Food service existed as early as the time of the barangay system.

2nd Century AD

China introduced the Philippines to soy sauce, fish sauce, and the method of stir frying.

This led to the birth of many Filipino-Chinese dishes such as pansit, lumpia, siopao, and siu mai.

  • Traders with valuable merchandise came to Luzon from Fookien, Southern China.

  • Chinese peddlers, the Filipinos came to know of varieties in dining pleasures.

  • The birth of 'Panciteria'
