HELP OUR

PLANET

There are many things we can do to help our planet. First of all, we need to stop polluting. Nice and simple, polluting is ruining our lives and also killing m mother earth. We need to figure out a way to stop all of this before its too late.

WHAT CAN WE DO?

Historical data from 1900-2013 indicates that:

Average annual temperature warmed by 1.4 °C across the province

The night-time minimum average temperature in winter in B.C. increased by 3.1 °C

Annual precipitation increased across the province overall

Average sea level has risen along most of the B.C. coast

Lakes and rivers become free of ice earlier in the spring

Water in the Fraser River is warmer in summer

Sections

British Columbia’s climate varies a lot, the temperature in the coastal regions have mild winds and warm summers, but the interior of British Columbia has summer ranging from 30-40 Degrees Celsius and cold winters with lots of snow.

The average temperature of Canada’s land from 1950 to 2010 increased by 1.5*C. But in British Columbia, the temperature has by far gone up the most by 1.5-2.5*C in almost all of the province.

The precipitation of general Canada has increased by 12% but British Columbia has experienced even more because of it’s coastal lets do something about it.

Specific Causes of Climate Change

Climate Change have become a concern in the Western Cordillera and cannot be ignored.

17 000 Glaciers in BC all melting

What has the humanity done to cause such a drastic change?

Car Emissions

Car Emissions

  • There are roughly 3.7 million cars in BC alone.

  • Car emissions contain carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, and methane.

  • These chemicals can harm our environment causing climate change.

Factories

  • There are roughly 7200 manufacturing plants in the Western Cordillera.
  • Factories use fossil fuels to feed their machines.
  • They release green house gases from their factories.

Factories

Forestry Work

  • Trees convert carbon dioxide into oxygen.

  • Cutting down trees prevents them from producing new oxygen.

  • More forestry work can cause climate change to be more severe.

Forestry

Water Pollution

  • Water pollutions can cause sea organisms to die. This disrupts the natural food chain.

  • Pollution of the water may also spread disease.

  • Chemicals in the water may also affect our health.

Water

Consequences

Consequences

Fires Extreme Weather

  • Precipitation will increase from 2% to 12%.
  • Summers will be much drier.
  • May also be insect outbreaks, a higher chance of forest fire, and forest diseases.
  • Glaciers will melt.
  • Temperatures and sea level will rise.

Drought

All caused by humans.

Continuity

Continuity

Humans have been causing damage to the environment.

Here are some problems that has been continuously growing.

  • Car usage grows constantly
  • Forestry work continues
  • Factory numbers increasing

Continuous Impacts

According to www2.gov.bc.com

Historical data from 1900-2013 indicates that:

  • Average annual temperature warmed by 1.4 °C in the province.

  • The average night time temperature in winter in B.C. increased by 3.1 °C

  • Annual precipitation increased across the province overall.

  • Average sea level has risen along the B.C. coast.

Solutions

Solutions

Land Solutions

  • Making sure cigarettes or campfires are unlit after use.
  • Plant more seeds.
  • Proper Maintenance of the forest.
  • Limit car usage or convert to electric.
  • Use natural energy (wind mills, solar energy).

Sea Solutions

  • Limit amount of fishing because whales depend on the food to keep a stable food chain.
  • Limit dumping of garbage into the ocean.
