Evidence Analysis

Unknown Substance in the Crime Scene:

- Unknown substance was found to be Acetylsalicylic Acid, or Asprin

This was found using different indicators and seeing each substance's reaction to it. WIth each indicator, Acetylsalicylic Acid changed by bubbling, turning into liquid (precipitant), and fizzled. This indicated that the subtance found was in fact, Asprin, proving it was not an illegal drug but a pain medication.

Other forms of evidence

Blood

The blood found at the scene was Type B. Anna, the victim, and Alex Garcia both have Type B blood. Doug Greene has AB, Erica Pidmont has A, and Lucy Leffingwell has Type O. These types were found by determining the presence or lack thereof of the antigens. Each sample was tested by adding Serum A or Serum B to the blood. If it clumped with only A, the blood type was A. If it clumped with only B, the blood type was B. If with both, blood type was AB and if with neither, the blood type was O. Even though blood found at scene was type B, this does not confirm that it was Alex's blood because people can share the same blood type.

Fingerprints

A fingerprint was found at the crime scene. Fingerprints from suspects were gathered, and the 12 Point Match System was conducted. If the fingerprint from the crime scene and from a suspect show similarities with at least 12 minutiae, then it is know that the suspect's fingerprint was the one found. This system is put in place to assure the matches, because fingerprints have slight differences that differentiate them. The person who's fingerprint matched the crime scene was Alex Garcia, meaning that he was a 12 Point Match.

Hair

There was hair found at the crime scene. From this hair strand, and looking at color and the microscopic pattern, we can determine who's hair this matches up with. To do so, you must look at the cortex and medulia of the strand. This occured in the investigation, and it was confirmed that the strand matched with Anna Garcia, the victim. In addition, from the root of a hair strand, it is possible to extract DNA.

Shoe Print

Shoe prints left at a crime scene helps investigators to match the potential suspect to the crime. By comparing the shoe print left at the crime scene's size and pattern to shoe prints obtained from each person of interest, this can be done. In this investagation, this process was enacted, and the results were that the shoe matched Anna Garcia's size and pattern.

Blood Spatter

Blood Spatter patterns are important when identifying how far from the ground and in what position the person release blood. By dropping blood from different heights, it was confirmed that Anna's blood was dropped from 20 inches, 3 times less than her height. This confirmed that Anna's release of blood occured on the fall down.

Autopsy

-No evidence of alcohol, BAC is 0.015.

- Trace amounts of Asprin present, no evidence of prescription or not prescription drugs

- No post-mortem tampering

- Clothes not torn but stained with blood

- Before death bruising evident

Physical Examination Results:

- Evidence of Oxygen deprivation

- Indication of head hitting solid object and light blood flow after head trama

Confiirmed Manner of Death: Natural

Conclusion

In conclusion, all of the evidence found at the scene was Anna Garcia's, excluding fingerprints from Alex Garcia. This shows that, because Alex Garcia could have fingerprints been from past relations, the manner of death was not a homicide. By blood spatter results, blood was released from 20 inches. Substances found at the crime scene were Asprin, but no overdose was present. Autopsy revealed that she did in fact hit head on solid object, but light blood flow followed that occurance. Th manner of death was confirmed to be natural.

Theory

The manner of death for Anna was natural, so now it is to be found what naturally happened for her to die the way she did. In the autopsy, it was noted that she was taking asprin, a pain reliever, and from the hit she had lack of blood flow. Because the heart is the main organ of the circulatory system, and light blood flow suggests problems with circulatory system. This leads me to believe she had heart disease, which would explain use of antibiotics.

Questions We still have about the case

Questions

Why did Anna throw up?

What naturally happened for Anna to die?

Why did Anna have back pain?

Did Anna have an infection?

What caused whatever illness Anna had?

Questions I have;

Why was Anna so secretive about her illness?

Even though this case is non homocidal, was there any form of wrong doings on the parts of the suspects?
