The Overland Campaign was one of the most important campaigns In the Civil War. There was more than 80,000 casualties both Union and Confederate suffered lots of Deaths The campaign evolved into trench warfare

Battle of Wilderness

The Battle of Wilderness was a difficult terrain and was one of the bloodiest battles of the war. It was very chaotic because it was hard to move and transport weapons. Many men stumbled into enemy camps and were taken as war prisoners. There was a lot of fires because rifle bursts and exploding shells so lots of people burned and soldiers couldn't tell who they were firing due to the smoke. Then a few hours later the battle of Spotsylvania Court House.

The Battle of Cold Harbor

Grant decided to stop going after well defended confederate bases and eventually on May 31, they took control of Cold Harbor. But the next few days the confederate soldiers showed up and made a strong line of defense. Grant ordered his men to attack but he had a large amount of casualties and lee eventually won. Grant and his troops crossed the James river to Peters-burg ending the Overland Campaign.
