Crystal Shawanda is 39 years old and was born on July 26, 1983 in the Wiikwemkoong First Nation in the Manitoulin Island District in Ontario, Canada. She had the passion for singing at a young age. Crystal listened to her favorite music that had
pieces that led her to the passion for blues music. Crystal was
introduced to the
blues by her eldest
brother and country
music by her
parents.
Crystal Shawanda grew up listening to country music before she started her career as a singer. "It's always been very important to me to try to break through the barriers into mainstream circles. That's always been a mission of mine, since I was a kid" Crystal Said. Crystal Shawanda recorded her first album at the age of 13.
Crystal Shawanda released her first single,
"You Can Let Go", in the year 2008 in January.
Her first Album was "Dawn of a New Day" released on June 24, 2008. The album reached No.2 on Canadian Country Albums and No.16 on Billboard Top Country Albums.
Her skills on songwriting have improved over time ever since she started her career. Crystal Shawanda started off with recording country music and dicided to pursue and change her style to blues. By pursuing her love in blues, she had claimed awards for some of her albums.
Crystal Shawanda was nominated for Juno Award and won for the Blues Album. The name for the album was MIdnight Blues which is her latest album.
Back in 2013, she won Juno Award for Indigenous Artist/Group of the year.
Crystal Shawanda still does music today. She is married to Dewayne Strobel and a daughter named Zhaa Zhaa. Crystal is in Nashville, Tennessee recording for her upcoming songs and albums according to her facebook.
