He was captured by the british while carrying messages for the Patriots.He later studied law in North Carolina and becamed a lawyer and landowner.Andrew led Americans forces to a major victory over the british at the battle of New Orleands

Winning 1828 presidential election ,Jackson fired many government employees with his supporters.Most of the presidents had done the same ,but Andrew had done it on a much longer scale.

Calhoun wanted to punish Jackson for his unauthorized military,Congress passed a bill to require taxes on imports, South Carolina refused to pay the tax.Calhoun developed what was called the Doctrine of Nullification.

John Calhoun claimed that a state had the right to nullify,or cancel a federal law that the state considered to be uncostitutional.he was elected as a senator from South Carolina ,Congress passed a new law in 1832 it passed the nullification Act ,declaring the new tariff illegal.

Andrew felt like the Bank was too powerful and needed to be eliminated especially disliked Nicholas Biddle president of the bank,Biddle used the Bank to benefit the rich.Henry and Daniel persuaded Biddle to apply renewal early to defeat Jackson in the upcoming election.

After the Bank of United States closed,state banks could lend money without limit.Buying public land had to pay for it with gold or silver.Many people lost their jobs,Americans blamed Van Buren and policies for the economic depression.

authorizing the president to grant unsettled lands west of the Mississippi in exchange for Indian lands within existing state borders. A few tribes went peacefully, but many resisted the relocation policy. Cherokees were forcibly moved west by the United States government.
