The main character of the story is Billy. Billy lives in the Ozark mountains. He desperately wants 2 hounds for hunting raccoons. After years of begging he finally gets 2 dogs, named Old Dan and Little Ann. Billy and his 2 dogs go hunting and eventually make it to a hunting competition.
