I was born on Sunday, October 1st, 1882 in St. Louis, Missouri to George Washington Allen and Lydia Jeanette McMillan. My father George, was a well-respected man in the community for his work in law enforcement, specifically a court judge.
In early 1912 I got engaged to Dr. James B. Mennel,
a local physician. We planned to move to england
and move in together and start a family.
I was 29 when i boarded the Titanic in Southampton, England. I had spent the Winter in England and was plannig on going back to my hometown of St. Louis to get my personal belongings in preparation of moving in with my soon-to-be husband, james.
Since I was a 1st class passenger, my room was noticably more extravagant than others. My suite included 2 bedrooms, 2 wardrobe rooms, and a private bathroom. The walls were lined with expensive wallpaper and were decorated to mimic The Renaissance period.
I was in my room when my maid, Miss Emilie Kreuchen came in and warned me that the baggage room had filled with water and that I had to hurry to the boat deck and receive a lifeboat. When the ship sank I was in lifeboat 2, one of the last lifeboats. Lifeboat 2 was also the first lifeboat picked up by The Carpathia. I was also the first passenger on the Carpathia to confirm the Titanic had indeed
All of my party survived, including myself and we all went on to live normal lives. In late 1912, following the disaster, I got married to James and completed moving in with him. We lived in a house in Tunbridge, England, which we built ourselves and we continued to live there until December 15th, 1967 when I died of heart failure.
