Neon is a chemical element with the symbol Ne and atomic number 10. It is a noble gas. Neon is a colorless, odorless, inert monatomic gas under normal circumstances, with only about two-thirds the density of air.
Neon was discovered by Sir William Ramsay and Morris Travers in 1898 at the University College of London

helium (He), neon (Ne), argon (Ar), krypton (Kr), xenon (Xe), radon (Rn), and oganesson (Og). But, no stable chemical compounds of neon have been observed. Because molecules of the element consist of single atoms.
The largest use of neon is in making the ubiquitous ‘neon signs’ for advertising. In a vacuum discharge tube neon glows a reddish orange color. Only the red signs contain pure neon. Others contain different gases to give different colors.
Neon is also used to make high-voltage indicators, diving equipment and lasers.
Liquid neon is an important cryogenic refrigerant. It has over 40 times more refrigerating capacity per unit volume than liquid helium, and more than 3 times of liquid hydrogen.
