Clementine Friend of the Week
By-Sara Pennypacker
Fiction
The first main character is Clementine. Clementine is a funny and helpful third grade girl who is unaware of what she wants to be when she grows up. She has red curly hair but she cut it earlier in the year to make Margaret feel better because she cut Margaret's hair off. Clementine wears a blouse, shorts and high tops.
Another main character is Moisterizer. This is Clementine's curious and cute kitty. Moisterizer is grey, soft, and a good adventurer. She thinks he is smart and handsome. Clementine loves it when he laughs and yawns.
Margaret is Clementine's best friend. Sometimes they fight over silly things like a Friend of the Week booklet. She thinks she is never wrong and is always perfect. In this book, Clementine and Margaret get in a bad fight and don't want to be friends. Margaret is a fourth grader and thinks she can boss Clementine around because she is older. She has braces (teeth bracelets), short straight hair, and she wears fancy clothes.
Of course, there are Clementine's parents. They are fun loving and helpful. Her mom is an artist with curly hair and she is messy when she paints. Clementine's dad is the building manager with shaggy hair and a beard.
The family lives in Boston, Massachusetts. This story takes place in Clementine's school, the street when they are searching for Moisterizer, the plummer's appartment when he finds the lost kitten and in her appartment building. It is present time.
Plot
While Clementine is searching for Halloween decorations to use for the annual bike race, Moisterizer, her kitten, follows her down to the basement. After she finds the decorations that she likes, she calls her kitty and he doesn't respond. She thinks he got out because he wants to see the world. Clementiine is worried because her kitten is missing and she thinks he is loose on the street. The problem is solved when Margaret steals all of Clementine's lost kitten posters and tapes them on all the bikes at the bike race. A plumber that was at Clementine's house earlier was watching the bike race on TV and saw the posters. He found Moisterizer in his bag. Moisterizer had crawled into his bag while the plumber was at her house. Clementine was so happy that he found her lost kitty.
I liked this book because it was funny, interesting and made me happy at the end when Clementine found Moisterizer. It was interesting to find out that when Clementine lost her posters, her friend, Margaret, had taken them to put on the bikes at the annual bike race to help her find the kitten. It was exciting when the plumber called Clementine's mom to tell her he found the kitten. Clementine was so happy and so was I. I rate this book a 10 out of 10 because it was funny, interesting and made me happy.
For my own ending, Moisterizer is missing. Clementine and her family rush out the door to look for him. After they leave, Moisterizer crawls out from under Clementine's bed and yawns. He jumps on top of the bed and snuggles under the covers for a nap. The family looks everywhere for him but has no luck finding him. They decide to go home for dinner. When they get back, Clementine walks into her room and sits on her bed. Suddenly, she hears a meow. She looks under the covers and finds Moisterizer. She is so relieved and happy that she screams. Her parents rush in to see what's wrong. They see that she found Mosterizer.
Theme
The lesson I learned from this story is to always follow the Golden Rule. The Golden Rule is to treat others the way you want to be treated. This relates to the story because when Clementine is mad at Margaret, Margaret still helps Clementine find her lost kitten.
Suprise Me!
Oh my gosh! Clementine has a brother. She thinks that it isn't fair that her name , Clementine, is a fruit so she decides to call him vegetable names. I think they are funny. Some examples are spinach, broccoli, onion, corn and brussel sprouts. He also put a cooking pot on his head and bangs it with wooden spoons.
