Quick cryptocurrency overview:
Golem (GNT)
Nutshell
- Golem is a global, open sourced, decentralised supercomputer
- It's made up of the combined power of user's machines, from personal laptops to entire datacenters.
- Anyone will be able to use Golem to compute almost any program
- Golem had ICO that ended in November 2016
- The team behind Golem is based in Warsaw, Poland
Technology
- Golem connects computers in a peer-to-peer network, enabling both application owners and individual users ("requestors") to rent resources of other users’ ("providers") machines.
- The function of Golem as the backbone of a decentralized market for computing power can be considered both Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), as well as Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS).
- Current version: Brass Golem is the proof-of-concept and in alpha testing now. This current version of Golem is only focused on rendering in Blender and LuxRender.

Availability and price
- Available on all major Western exchanges.
- Over half of the overall trading volume on Liqui with rest split between Bittrex and Poloniex.
- Current price as of 14th of October around $0.21 with the currency being ranked on 34th place based on market cap
- In the recent months GOLEM fell of the radar - there has been steady decline both in terms of volume and price. The ATH was at the end of June and is around $0.66
Unique aspects
- GOLEM has been around for a while and has a very good development roadmap, working alpha and great development wiki
- The development is progressing slowely but surely with team posting regular updates on social media
- The main competition are SONM and iExec RLC - SONM is also in alpha, RLC no alpha yet.
- Currently seems to be collaborating with Streamr quite closely
Unique aspects
My verdict
- Longterm GOLEM is a very solid project - the fundamentals are very solid with team ensuring that everything is handled correctly,
- However the development is really slow and that affects the interest in the project, currently GOLEM doesn't generate any interest and any trading volume.
- Because of that I would probably avoid it for now.
- Keep in mind however that GOLEM could be huge in the future so the key will be to find a right moment to get into it before the price increases (probably sometime next year)
