Cloud Seeding in China

By Makayla Faley

Cloud Seeding

What is cloud seeding?

Cloud seeding adds small, ice-like particles to clouds. Usually, silver iodide particles are used. The largest cloud seeding system is in the People's Republic of China. They believe that it increases the amount of rain over several increasingly arid regions, including its capital city, Beijing, by firing silver iodide rockets into the sky where rain is desired.

Positives

  • Regulates water vapor
  • Saves dry places from drought

Positives of cloud seeding

Negatives

  • Uses chemicals which can be harmful to the environment
  • Used on clouds about to rain so it's not know if it actually causes rain
