The prodigy is an animated action comedy that follows the quest of a young panda girl named KG, the Kung-Fu Girl. With the help of her brave yet sassy Master Panda, KG must rescue Prince Po and restore justice to her beautiful kingdom. During her adventure, KG learns that there is no limit to what she can accomplish, if she believes in herself.
We are introduced to KG the Kung-Fu Girl practicing Kung-Fu with Master Panda assisting her. The story is set in China based on the designs of the houses, KG’s clothing designs and because they are practicing Kung-fu which is Chinese.
We see that KG is strong in Kung-Fu, The Master Panda says to her “Your father would be proud”. This breaks the Ancient Chinese women's status, like Australia in the early 1910s, women were second class to their husbands and fathers.
We are then introduced to Prince Po when he is playing his Pipa, a chinese instrument. KG falls in love with the sound Prince Po is playing from his palace and decides to join along playing the flute. Next they decide to go to where the sound was coming from and meet up in the middle. They have a romantic moment before Prince Po has to return to the Kingdom because his father wants to keep him safe.
They have an epic band moment where the father comes to take Prince Po away, in which Master Panda calls “the party pooper”. We are also introduced to the villain's sidekick
KG and Prince Po meet up the next day to play tag. (This is meant to be romantic btw).
This is where Prince Po is taken by the Villain’s sidekick and the villain herself, Princess Mei. KG and Princess Mei have a fight scene leaving KG defeated and Princess Mei fleeing from the scene leaving her magic perfume bag behind which KG now possesses.
Makeup is something which is usually described as something women wear.
KG, Master Panda, Princess Mei and evil sidekick all get into a fight. KG uses the magical makeup to her advantages and wins the battle.
KG and the Master Panda decide to go to the Dragon Kingdom where Prince Po is kept. KG runs into the King, in trouble with a couple ghosts. She goes to save the King and his soldiers.
We see again, the gender norms of Ancient china have changed, the woman being stronger than the males.
Princesses Mei’s reason to kidnap Prince Po was to make him fall in love with her using a love potion she made. She wanted to have the power Prince Po had. During this time KG is kicking ass with Master Panda assisting her.
KG and Master Panda then defeat all the villains before going into the Dragon Kingdom where they face Princess Mei, Her sidekick, Her side sidekick? And the Dragon King himself. With ease KG defeats all of them leaving the Dragon King for Master Panda to defeat. After they save Prince Po and the kingdom blows up.
KG and master Panda return to the King with Prince Po to be reunited with one another. The King then approves KG and Prince Po to date because he believes KG can defend for Prince Po.
The movie ends in an epic dance party at the traven where they first had a band moment.
Conclusion:
KG is a strong and independent woman going to save the prince instead of the fairytale norms.
Princess Mei is also a strong villian with a male as her sidekick breaking the norms
