Colonial Timeline

Jamestown Settlement (1607)

Jamestown was the first colony located in Virginia. The reason for settlement was to find gold and riches in the area. They faced tensions with Indians and eventually got along thanks to John Smith. In Jamestown, they learned to adapt to life and plant tabacco on swampy land. Today In Virginia, there are alot of momuments about the the first colony and is celebrated 350 years since the the colony first settled.

The first arrival of Slaves in America began in the colony Jamestown, Virginia. Slaves were forced labor to work tabacco crops and other cash crops needed to make money and for trade. From then on, slavery over the course of many years increased throughout North America. For many settlements this was the start of big trading deals and a way to make money.

The House Of Burgesses was the first elected law making body in America, and it began the structure of a representative government created laws, rules and taxes.

Plymouth Colony (1620)

The Plymouth Colony was a settlement for seperatists who seeked the Plymouth colony for freedom of religion. In search of their journey, they were name pilgrams. They mostly settled this colony to escape religious persecution.

The Mayflower Compact was an agreement to establish a self government to establish their own authority .

Fundamental Orders of Connecticut (1639)

In 1639, The Fundamental Orders of Connecticut was the first written constitution in the colonies which descrivbed the organization of representative government in detail. Today, the US still uses the constitution.

1st Great Awakening (1730's - 1740's

The first great awakening was an emotional religious revival that spread across the American Colonies that left an impact on American religion.

French and Indian war (1754- 1763)

The French and Indian was about a balance in power and colonization. The British traded with with Indians where the French built forts. The British wanted the land that the French had, so they faught and the Indians fought for the British and French. The Treaty Of Paris ended the war between them. After that, each country got a piece of land from each other and Spain got land too.
