Vertebrates and Invertebrates
Now we have invertebartes which are animals without spinal cords which includes mollusks and arthropods. some ar every small but some cxan be very big.
mollusks are animals with very soft bodies. This phylum also includes an under water animal. A squid. Some mollusks have hard shells and some get oxygen using gills. Some can even absorb oxygen.
Arthropods include insects lobsters and spiders. This phylum is the largest. Arthropod means "jointed feet". Another fact about arthropods is that they all have divided parts of there body.
The first fact about Cnidarians is that they only live underwater. The body of cnidarians is a sack with a opening like a polyp. Cnidarians are symmetrical and all have tentacles.
The earthworm is a freshwater worm where leeches (another annelid) is a marine worm. Annelids live throughout the world from the bottom of the ocean to the high mountain glaciers.
The animal kingdom has 30 phyla but only one phylum, the chordata, have organisms with backbones.
A lot of animals live in the water but only the fish class is made completely of underwater animals. Some live in fresh water and some live in salt water. If the ones that live in salt water go to fresh water go int fresh water they could die. (its the same thing the other way around.
Amphibians are like reptiles in many ways. For example a salamanders body looks alot like a lizards body. They are cold-blooded like lizard but all amphibians have moist soft skin that can absorb water and oxegen.
Reptiles are different than mammals. Although they have similar stomachs and breathe air, reptiles have alot of differemt things too. For example the do not have fur like mammals but instead have scales, also unlike mammals reptiles are cold blooded not warm blooded.
Birds have many similarities but what makes birds different is not their flight but their feathers. Most animals do not have feathers.
Mammals breathe air through their lungs and make milk for their young. They are also the only class of animals with fur or hair.
