It had both positive and negative aspects. The good news is that it lowered welfare, increased humanitarian activities, increased life expectancy, and increased technology. It was poor because Africans lost their land and freedom, traditional African communities died out, and the continent was divided politically.

What were the effects of imperialism on Nigeria?

Lasting impact/effects of Imperialism

As a result, they naturally assume they are better at running a government and have a hostile attitude toward other groups. “The disputed use of Ibo and perceived favoritism toward those who spoke it was the cause of a very bloody civil war in Nigeria,” according to one source. Nigeria's government is ineffective and problematic, which is the root of the conflict. The government's issues arise from a lack of awareness about how to operate it. The north was ruled indirectly under colonial rule, with the British often guiding events without showing them how to do things properly.

What is it like now?

Due to the high birth rate and incentives for foreign workers, the number of people living in Nigeria is steadily growing, making it Africa’s most populous nation.
